WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) issued the following statement in recognition of Earth Day:
“On this Earth Day, I'm proud that President Biden is convening leaders from around the world to the White House for a historic two-day Leaders Summit on Climate. By committing to cut our country's emissions in half by 2030, he is showing that the United States is ready to lead the world once again on climate action.
“We don't have any more time to waste. We've all seen the extreme forest fires. And this year's meager snowpack and warm winter days mean that New Mexico's farmers and wildlife will be without the water they need this summer. No one likes to cross the Rio Grande and see a dry river bed. So let's be a part of the solution.
“President Biden's American Jobs Plan will put millions of Americans to work building a clean energy economy, restoring our landscapes, and creating a carbon pollution-free future. The American Jobs Plan represents the greatest opportunity in our lifetimes to save the future of our planet. We can't afford to let it pass us by. I will do everything in my power to get it across the finish line in the Senate.
“I'm proud to stand with all the young New Mexicans who are calling for big and bold climate solutions that meet the moment. Every single one of us can play a role in saving the only planet we call home.”
