WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich released the following statement on Senate Republicans effort to prevent debate on the Paycheck Fairness Act, a bill aimed at combatting wage discrimination on the basis of gender.
“At a time when our economy is still recovering, it is disappointing to know that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle refuse to ensure working families the security of earning fair wages. The fact that we do not have equal pay for equal work in this country is unacceptable. By not passing the Paycheck Fairness Act, many women in New Mexico will have to continue to make ends meet with less. Americans want and deserve concrete and immediate action to improve the economic security of working families.”
Senator Heinrich, a cosponsor of the bill, voted to advance the Paycheck Fairness Act, which failed a procedural vote of 53 to 44.
