WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement after President Donald J. Trump vetoed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021:
“This is another dangerous move by President Trump to put his own interests ahead of the country’s.
“The National Defense Authorization Act has broad bipartisan support and is foundational to our national security. It includes provisions I fought for to authorize critical funding for New Mexico's men and women in uniform, military installations, national laboratories, the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, and job-creating initiatives throughout the state. The bill also includes critical new cyber authorities we need now to protect our networks against the type of devastating attacks we have seen in the past weeks.
“President Trump needs to stop trying to burn the place down on his way out the door if he ever wants to be remembered as anything other than a tyrant.”
