Heinrich Attends White House Signing Ceremony, Applauds Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment And Jobs Act Becoming Law

The historic infrastructure package will make critical investments in New Mexico, including major provisions secured by Senator Heinrich

WASHINGTON (Nov. 15, 2021) – Today, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) was at the White House as President Joe Biden signed the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law, a once-in-a-generation investment in our nation’s infrastructure and competitiveness. The new law will rebuild America’s roads, bridges and rails, expand access to clean drinking water, ensure more Americans have access to high-speed internet, and invest in communities that have too often been left behind. The law will also make long overdue improvements to our nation’s ports and airports, and drive the creation of good-paying union jobs and grow the economy.

Senator Heinrich, Vice Chair of the Joint Economic Committee and a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, has been a leader on ensuring that a 21st century infrastructure meets 21st century needs. That includes provisions that take the climate crisis head on, move the clean energy transition forward, and power America’s economic recovery.

“For decades, New Mexico has been held back by a systemic lack of investment in infrastructure. That’s about to change,” said Heinrich. “This historic legislation will create hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs and ensure that our nation’s infrastructure meets 21st century needs. We now need to move quickly to pass the Build Back Better Act to boost the United States’ ability to confront the climate crisis. By making these smart, long-term investments we can increase opportunities for every New Mexican and change the very course of our nation’s future.”

New Mexico-specific investments can be found here. A list of some of the programs and provisions Senator Heinrich secured in the bipartisan infrastructure bill can be foundhere.

The Build Back Better Act, which lowers costs, creates jobs, and cuts taxes, while tackling the climate crisis, is also advancing in Congress.
