WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 4, 2019) – Today, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) announced that Edward Tabet-Cubero will serve as his state director. Tabet-Cubero brings over 20 years of experience in the education, nonprofit and public policy sectors, including serving as the executive director of Learning Alliance of New Mexico and the New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty, as well as associate director of Dual Language Education of New Mexico.
“Throughout his career, Edward has proven to be a strong advocate and leader committed to enriching the lives of New Mexicans,” said Heinrich. “I’m proud to have him join our team and am confident he will be a great asset to the work we do every day to create opportunity across the state.”
“I have long respected Senator Heinrich as a leader of great integrity, who has dedicated his entire career to caring for our people, our land, and our water in New Mexico," said Tabet-Cubero. "I look forward to the opportunity to join a strong state team working in service to our local communities across New Mexico.”
Tabet-Cubero has promoted educational equity for historically underserved communities as a classroom teacher in the colonias of southern New Mexico, school administrator, education consultant, non-profit administrator, and university instructor at four different institutions of higher learning.
Tabet-Cubero has served on various education and policy non-profit boards all focused on improving outcomes for New Mexico’s families. He was also a 2014 W.K. Kellogg Foundation community leadership network fellow. Edward has a Master of Arts in bilingual curriculum and instruction and a Bachelor of Arts in foreign languages and Latin American studies, both from New Mexico State University.
Senator Heinrich hired his former State Director Rebecca L. Avitia as his new chief of staff in November.
