Heinrich Announces Federal Grant Funding For UNM School Of Engineering

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) announced federal grant funding for the University of New Mexico’s (UNM) School of Engineering. The Federal Department of Transportation will be granting $48,758to the UNM School of Engineering for a project that seeks to increase interest in transportation and engineering degrees.

“There is no question that New Mexico’s higher education institutions are playing a critical role in America's ability to meet the demands of the 21st century,” said Heinrich. “The UNM School of Engineering promotes STEM education, which prepares students to be leaders and compete in a global economy, and is important in developing our country’s transportation infrastructure.”

The UNM School of Engineering was awarded the Federal Department of Transportation grant for their program to expose disadvantaged and at-risk middle school and high school students to the transportation industry and encourage them to pursue career opportunities in various modes of transportation. The program will provide access to information at host sites throughout the country at no cost to students.
