ADVISORY: Heinrich to Deliver Veterans Day Speech, Host Ceremony to Honor Vietnam War Veteran

WASHINGTON – On Saturday, November 11, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will deliver a speech in honor of Veterans Day at the Albuquerque Veteran’s Memorial Park. Following the speech, he will host a medal ceremony to honor the service of U.S. Marine Corps and Vietnam Veteran Antonio Sanchez.
 
At 11:00 a.m. MT, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), will join the City of Albuquerque’s Veterans Ceremony to honor New Mexico veterans’ service and contributions.

Background:
Antonio Sanchez was born and raised in the barrio of San Jose in Albuquerque, N.M. He was an infantryman in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He went to Vietnam from 1965-1966, and again in 1968-1969. He had three brothers who also served in the military and his family has been committed to serving their country.
 
Sanchez was a carpenter for 10 years before joining the U.S. Postal Service in his 40s and retired in 2012. He has 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. 
 
Sanchez reached out to Senator Heinrich office for help obtaining his military medals when they were stolen from him 30 years ago. After contacting the Albuquerque office of Senator Heinrich, the Senator’s team was successfully able to obtain Sanchez’s medals in recognition of his service to our country.
