ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A New Mexico veteran is being honored for his work helping other veterans.
George Perez is a volunteer at Disabled American Veterans in Albuquerque. Friday, Senator Martin Heinrich presented an American flag to Perez, who has worked over the past 12 years to help connect veterans to their benefits.
Perez says he started volunteering when he realized many were having trouble filling out the paperwork.
“When they do get their disability they’re very grateful and I always get a hug out of it,” said Perez.
Senator Heinrich says he kept hearing about Perez and he wanted to honor him for his work.
