ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Sen. Martin Heinrich is sponsoring a bill that would allow hunters and anglers better access to federal lands.
The Hunt Act would require federal land management agencies to create public access to areas that are currently inaccessible.
Heinrich says opening up these “land-locked areas" could bring a big boost to New Mexico's outdoor recreation industry.
“Hunters and anglers spend more than $500 million a year now in New Mexico,” Heinrich said. “We need to keep that up and we need to take it into the future."
A similar bill was introduced last year, but it didn't get far because it was introduced too late in the session
