Dear Friend,
I am proud to stand with New Mexico's LGBTQ community and recommit to the effort to advance equality for every single American, no matter who they are or who they love.
While we have achieved many milestones in the last decade--from marriage equality to repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"--the Trump Administration has threatened to thwart progress and even turn back the clock on hard-won victories. And despite advances we have made together, too many LGBTQ Americans continue to face discrimination, harassment, and violence just for living their lives.
There is still so much work to do to move us closer to the fundamental American ideal that everyone is created equal, deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, and must be afforded the same protections under the law. I will keep fighting for policies to support homeless youth and families, combat bullying and harassment in our schools, and ban discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex under the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
This Pride Month, let's all strive to make our homes, businesses, and communities more welcoming. Together we will keep standing up for American values and marching forward toward full equality.
Sincerely,
MARTIN HEINRICH
United States Senator
