Preventing and solving violent crime

Dear Friend,

I’m focused on delivering the tools needed to make our communities safer. That includes over $1 million of federal funding that I secured to purchase four new ballistics testing machines in Las Cruces, Roswell, Farmington, and Gallup.

These National Integrated Ballistics Information Network (NIBIN) testing machines will help city, county, and Tribal law enforcement solve crimes and hold criminals accountable.

I announced this funding alongside New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez and Doña Ana County Sheriff Kim Stewart last week.

Prior to this investment, there were only three NIBIN machines in all of New Mexico: two in Albuquerque and one in Santa Fe. These new machines will dramatically expand New Mexico law enforcement’s capacity to more quickly and effectively identify, solve, and prosecute crimes involving firearms.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I look forward to continuing to deliver investments like this to help make New Mexico safer.

Sincerely,

MARTIN HEINRICH
