President Trump's Shutdown

Dear Friend,

We are now in the third week of President Trump's unnecessary and irresponsible government shutdown. A government shutdown ripples throughout the entire economy, shakes consumer confidence, and impacts hard-working families. I hope you can take a moment to watch and share a speech I just gave on the Senate floor calling on President Trump to end his shutdown immediately.

I also want to hear from you about how the shutdown is impacting you and your community. I have created a survey for New Mexicans to tell me about how they are being affected. Please share your story so I can continue to stress how urgent it is for President Trump to end this shutdown.

New Mexico is being hit especially hard by President Trump's shutdown because we are home to so many federal workers, tribal communities, and public lands that are affected by the federal agencies President Trump refuses to reopen. In our state alone, almost 6,000 federal workers have been furloughed or are working without pay. And hundreds of thousands of New Mexicans rely on the federal agencies President Trump has shuttered.

President Trump signing a bipartisan government funding bill to reopen the government is the only responsible way forward. The only thing he is doing by refusing to compromise is hurting Americans like the families I represent in New Mexico. They expect and deserve so much better than this. I won't stop fighting to end this reckless shutdown and will continue working to ensure furloughed federal workers get the paychecks they've earned.
