Dear Friend,
On Memorial Day, we pause to remember the generations of American heroes who selflessly gave their lives to defend our great nation.
It is humbling to reflect on the countless New Mexicans who have sacrificed so much in service to our country—from World War II’s Navajo Code Talkers and Bataan Death March Survivors to veterans of conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. As we honor their memory, we must also do all we can to keep supporting the men and women currently serving at military installations in New Mexico and in missions all around the globe.
We must never forget those men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that each of us can enjoy the freedoms that we cherish as Americans. We should also honor all of the military families—those who have lost loved ones and those who continue to support active service members and combat veterans.
I join all New Mexicans in remembering our country’s fallen heroes and recognizing those who continue to serve at home and abroad.
Sincerely,
MARTIN HEINRICH
United States Senator
