Infrastructure investments in Valencia County

Dear Friend,

Yesterday, I was proud to visit Valencia County to shine a light on some of the transformative infrastructure investments that I was proud to secure by passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. New Mexico will receive more than $3.7 billion from this new law over the next five years to repair our roads and bridges, improve our water infrastructure, and connect many more New Mexicans to affordable, high-speed internet. Each new project that breaks ground will create many good-paying jobs and build a strong foundation for our state’s long-term economic competitiveness.

In Los Lunas, I was proud to welcome $25 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s INFRA grants program to construct a brand new, second interchange on I-25 and a brand new river crossing over the Rio Grande. That major highway and bridge project will go a long way toward relieving worsening traffic congestion in Valencia County. And with billions of dollars in new highway funding coming to our state over the next five years, we will be able to break ground on many similarly transformative projects all over our state.

Next up, I visited the Belen Regional Airport to highlight the estimated $159,000 for each of the next five years that the airport will receive in each of the next five years to help tackle its infrastructure needs. Overall, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will deliver $90 million to local airports across New Mexico over the next five years to help them repair runways and taxiways, improve safety sustainability, and modernize their terminals, airport-transit connections, and roadways.

We haven’t seen infrastructure investments at these levels in New Mexico since the construction of the federal highway system or the New Deal in the 1930s. This is our opportunity to make sure all of New Mexico will emerge from this moment in a stronger competitive position than we were in before.

Sincerely,

MARTIN HEINRICH
United States Senator
