Dear Friend,
As the father of two teenage sons, I know just how attuned our kids are to how their future is going to be impacted by the climate crisis. I also know that the purchasing decisions we make around our kitchen table impact our health, our children, and the very future of our planet. That is why I am leading an effort to accelerate widespread electrification, including making electrification for households easy and affordable for everyone through consumer rebates.
Carbon emissions do not solely come from gas-powered cars and trucks. They also come from our homes where we are burning fossil fuels and emitting carbon pollution from our hot water heaters, furnaces, clothes dryers, ovens, and stoves. Investments to make zero-emission electric appliances more affordable for consumers is one of the most practical actions we can take right now to address the climate crisis, reduce our monthly energy bills, and improve indoor air quality.
Last year, I founded the first-ever bicameral Electrification Caucus. This group has the drive and momentum to lock in the long-term financial and health benefits that come with electrification. And that momentum is only growing.

As Congress debates a path forward on significant climate legislation, the Electrification Caucus Co-chairs hosted a virtual briefing this week along with Mayor of Houston Sylvester Turner, CEO of Rewiring America Ari Matusiak, and CEO of Redfin Glenn Kelman to call for action on electrification measures to address the climate crisis.

We need to treat this moment like it’s our best chance to make a big difference on the type of planet we will pass down to our kids and to future generations--because frankly it is.
We need to get this done.
Sincerely,
MARTIN HEINRICH
United States Senator
