Clean school buses

Dear Friend,

I am thrilled to welcome the first round of funding for the brand new Clean School Bus Program at the EPA that New Mexico Democrats helped to create as part of the historic Infrastructure Law. The EPA awarded a total of $4,560,000 to the Dulce, Pecos, Las Cruces, Dora, and Lake Arthur school districts in New Mexico to help them purchase clean school buses that will accelerate the transition to zero-emissions vehicles and produce cleaner air within and around their schools and communities.

Modernizing the vehicles that transport New Mexico's children to school--especially with clean and electric buses--will make our air cleaner and improve public health, and create important energy and fuel savings for public school districts. This is part of the broader effort to electrify our homes, buildings, and vehicles. Electrification is one of the surest climate actions that we can take right now that will help secure a more equitable, healthier future for all our communities.

The clean energy and electrification investments that we secured in both the Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act are by far the most significant steps that Congress has ever taken to spur the widespread deployment of highly efficient, fully electric and climate pollution-free technologies. These investments will lower costs on energy bills, create good-paying careers, and clean up our air and water.

We are taking concrete actions that will move the needle on climate and help us meet our responsibility to pass on a healthier planet to our kids.

Sincerely,

MARTIN HEINRICH
