TAOS, N.M. – On Thursday, October 6, at 12 p.m. MT, in Taos, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will deliver remarks at the New Mexico Outdoor Economics Conference.
The conference will highlight successful community economic development efforts within and outside of New Mexico that are connected to protected lands and focus on the development of governmental policies and local entrepreneurship.

Later that day at 1:15 p.m. MT, Senator Heinrich will visit Enos Garcia Elementary School to announce his recently introduced Living Schoolyards Act. This legislation will enable schools to completely re-envision their outdoor school grounds with the goal of providing more hands-on learning opportunities, strengthening local ecological systems, and giving every single child a place where they can learn and play outside.
Enos Garcia Elementary is home to two gardening projects that teach students how to grow, harvest and prepare fresh, healthy foods.

Finally, at 2:30 p.m. MT, Senator Heinrich will highlight his legislation to unlock major investments in early childhood education in New Mexico. The New Mexico Education Enhancement Act recently passed out of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and currently awaits consideration by the full Senate.
Senator Heinrich’s legislation would provide congressional approval for the State of New Mexico’s proposal to invest Land Grant Permanent Fund (LGPF) dollars into early childhood education.
